apm Beach Clean for Sustainable Coastlines and Earth Day

apm team and family members supported Sustainable Coastlines and Earth Day on Thursday 20 April 2023 by collecting plastic rubbish/litter from Point Chevalier Beach.

On Thursday 20 April 2023, some of our team ventured to Point Chevalier beach to collect rubbish to commemorate Earth Day (Saturday 22 April), and support Sustainable Coastlines, a charity that apm sponsors.

The team spent a few hours on Point Chevalier beach and collected several bags of plastic and litter waste from around the coastline. The most prevalent were small bits of plastic, polystyrene balls, cigarette butts, lollipop sticks and broken glass. As the local Point Chevalier community hold their own beach cleans there wasn’t much visible rubbish, so we focused not just on the big and visible litter, but also the smaller micro pieces that have been in our sea and washed ashore that are not as noticeable.

Waiheke Island based team members of apm also did a clean-up at Oneroa Beach.

apm became a sponsor of Sustainable Coastlines last year after feedback from staff about wanting to support an environmentally focused organisation. We chose Sustainable Coastlines because many people in their team spend time at the beach or live near the beach, fish in the surrounding water, and care about New Zealand’s environment. Sustainable Coastlines fits the description, and it has been a partnership that apm is pleased to continue with.

“We are proud to support Sustainable Coastlines as an organisation that cares for our sea and coastlines.” says Managing Director of apm, Bill Highet.

“Being able to get together as a team and ‘walk the talk’ is a valuable experience and it feels good to have a positive impact on our local environment. We have beautiful beaches in New Zealand so it’s good to be part of the behavioural change and see firsthand the impact humans have on the coast. We make a donation to the Sustainable Coastlines charity with every new property signed up to our services, so we want to thank our clients for making this support possible.”

apm wishes to thank Sustainable Coastlines for providing the gear, and for helping host the team beach clean event. apm encourage all beach attendees to pay attention to the rubbish at your local beach and take part in reducing the pollution for our sea and coastlines.
